Make No Mistake: This Was Open Warfare

Even the various news broadcasts last night got it right: there was open warfare on the streets of Melbourne yesterday afternoon. Of course that is somewhat misleading to put it that way, since it implies there were two belligerents attacking each other.

But the truth is, there was one peaceful, joyous group of pro-lifers staging a calm and lawful march through the streets of Melbourne yesterday afternoon, complete with official permit, and there was another group of anarchists, revolutionaries and haters who were intent on preventing this rally and disrupting it in every way possible.

So yes one group – the pro-aborts – declared war on a group of innocent and peaceful men, women and children. And most tragic was the complete inaction of the police. For the most part they did nothing at all to prevent the brown-shirts from assaulting the pro-lifers and declaring their utter hatred and contempt of freedom and democracy.

I describe in detail yesterday’s march here: https://billmuehlenberg.com/2013/10/12/choosing-death-choosing-hate/

Also look at the many comments under that article where peaceful marchers tell their own stories of how they were attacked, assaulted, intimidated and abused by this rag tag band of anarchists, socialists, lefties, revolutionaries and haters.

But more needs to be said about this. While we can thank and praise the many police who did do a good job and often put themselves in front of the screaming haters, far too often when actual physical attacks were taking place, they did little or nothing.

Indeed, I even stood right next to the police on several occasions as pro-life organisers ran up to them, alerting them of another ugly assault by the pro-death camp. Incredibly the police said nothing and did nothing. Eggs and bottles were thrown at the peaceful pro-lifers, along with punches. Yet there was little intervention by the police.

Banners and signs were snatched, ripped up, and thrown to the ground. The anarchists even tried to steal expensive audio-video equipment. When one pro-lifer actually tried to stop this theft, a policeman threatened him with assault! Go figure.

This was nothing but lawlessness and anarchy on the streets, and this should never take place in a free democracy. The police are there to protect innocent citizens from assault and abuse. They should also be clamping down on public profanity and indecency, which were on display big time from the anarchists.

The pro-lifers had official permission to march along a certain route in the CBD, while the anarchists had no permission to block this lawful and peaceful rally. They brought the city of Melbourne to a standstill, and incredibly the police did absolutely nothing to intervene, even to keep city traffic flowing.

At least some of the media has reported on the actual assaults, even on our politicians. As one write-up states: “A Victorian MP says he was assaulted and egged when pro-choice and anti-abortion groups clashed in Melbourne on Saturday. An organiser of the anti-abortion march, Liberal MP Bernie Finn, says he and others from his group were assaulted by pro-choice activists who held a counter-demonstration. ‘I was belted in the head but I’ve still got the remnants of an egg in my hair,’ he told AAP.

“‘What we saw today was literally a public mugging on the streets of Melbourne and Victoria Police let it happen. We had people being assaulted, being kicked, being stomped on and they sat back and watched.’ Victoria Police played down the protests, saying there were a couple of scuffles between opposing groups but these stopped once police intervened.”

Make no mistake: yesterday we saw open warfare on the streets of Melbourne. What we witnessed there was something we would expect to see on the streets of Beirut or Mogadishu. We would expect there to see such anarchy, violence, open warfare, and riotous behaviour – but on the streets of Melbourne?

The hate-filled anarchists were allowed to intimidate, harass, assault, disrupt and torment a group of lawful marchers, including many babies, children and elderly people. Incredibly, basically nothing was done to prevent this. And as I described in the article I linked to above, these anarchists have now even become so brazen as to enter private functions and seek to shut them down as well.

Be forewarned: as the police stand by and do nothing about all this, this will simply embolden the radicals and activists to do even far worse in future events like this. Indeed, that is exactly what is now happening. If you go to their websites and FB pages, you can read right now about how they plan to be even more ruthless and effective in entirely shutting down any event they disagree with.

My friends, this is simply the death of freedom and democracy in this nation. And when the police, who are supposed to prevent this kind of anarchy and social chaos, stand back and do nothing, then you know the end is near. By doing almost nothing to stop the troublemakers, they are effectively siding with them.

And we have seen this sort of thing before sadly. Just think of Germany in the 1930s. First the police did nothing to prevent Jews and others from being harassed and intimidated and bullied. Soon the police were on the side of those attacking these innocent victims.

Will that become our fate here?

Action

Please contact the Chief of Police and let him know how disappointed you are that they allowed open warfare on the streets of Melbourne. Let them know about their lack of action in protecting the freedom of speech of the lawful and peaceful pro-life marchers.

Ask why they did not intervene to stop all the harassment and assaults from the pro-abortion group. Our complaints now will greatly support pro-life march organisers to ensure our safety in upcoming rallies. In a firm yet polite manner, please direct your complaints here: http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=11933

Please write now and lodge a formal complaint. We all must make our voices heard. If we refuse to speak out, the days of freedom and democracy in Australia will very quickly come to an end, and we will be effectively ruled by the radicals, haters, activists and anarchists.

  1. What a horrible scenario it was to see on the news last night, after reading your account Bill. Rounded out today by the comments of people who were there. I contacted the Chief of Vic Police on the link above as suggested and I hope they get inundated by complaints about their role yesterday!

  2. Well said Brenda. The abortionists are part of the radical left and demonise the conservatives and Christians. They are a dangerous group of people. Many of those protestors are uni students who have been brainwashed by the liberal lecturers in addition to having no moral centre. The conservatives need to bring a stronger voice into the community to fight for the preservation of moral values.Check out this links from my blog. I go to uni everyday, hearing a lot of rubbish about progressivism and liberal values.

  3. I had made the complain to the Vic police, hope to get answer. Is a shame of liberty and democracy that extremist can attack and under the nose of police peaceful moral marched. Our society is very degraded. Police of Melbourne had a very bad reputation of corruption and wrong doing so hopefully this will made some clean up.

  4. I have sent a complaint to Vic police. They have contributed to perpetrating double standards against conservatives and those who stand for morality. If it was a case like Jill Meagher’s murder, they would immediately seek an investigation because she is one of the media’s favourite types – white, female, pretty, cultured, professional, upper-middle class.

  5. Andrew Bolt has posted over nine minutes of footage from the march yesterday.

  6. I have sent an official complaint to the Chief of Police. It is so upsetting to see peaceful, legal protesters being set upon by illegal thugs, and the police turning a blind eye to it all.
I commend the Pro-life marchers for standing their ground and behaving well in the face of their adversaries.

  7. This Bill, I am afraid to say is the new reality of our democracy: mob rule.

  8. Leigh, democracy IS rule by majority – what people want. What people want is not necessarily right.

  9. Hi, I have just sent off my complaint to the Vic Police. Hopefully, there will be a sufficient number of complaints to force the Commissioner to take action to ensure such incidents do not occur again.

  10. Always think about what Jesus went through alone just before he was murdered by the Roman police
I love to hear about and acknowledge the saints who get spat on and abused and still show love – you are truly heaven sent and heaven bound!!

Can I please ask Bill that that you refrain from using the word “hater”?
You sound just like them when you use it
    Dameon McManus

  11. Thanks Dameon. Sorry, but I am not sounding just like them. Speaking truth is the opposite of what they are doing. A person who hates is a hater. A person who kills is a killer. A person who writes is a writer. A person who robs is a robber. This is just standard use of the English language, so I will not be cowed by the foolishness of Political Correctness here. It is the other side of course that wants to redefine language so they can push radical PC agendas. But I am not going to allow that to happen on my watch – whether by friend or by foe.

  13. Thanks guys.

So have you written a letter yet to the police complaints site? And have you written a letter to the Herald Sun, describing the feral treatment and the lack of a suitable police presence? I have done both. Please do the same thanks:

  14. Thanks Bill, I’ve emailed both the minister, and the police link you’ve published here.

  15. Can UK readers of your blog help here? And if so what would you suggest?
    Alan J Williams, UK

  16. Thanks Alan – yes why not? Use the links I have just posted and send off emails saying you have heard about and march and seen footage of the events, and wonder why appropriate action was not taken by the police to protect these lawful marchers.

  17. Hi Dameon,

Bill is right in describing them as haters. The Apostle Paul describes such people as being ‘God-haters’. You could even understand their wicked behaviour as being God’s judgement upon them, as ‘God gave them over’ to do these things. Consider this:

28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:28-32 NIV)

    This sums up their situation.

  18. And Andrew Bolt on this:

“The Left has been long presented by schools, universities and media outlets, especially the ABC, as people who are “progressive” and “compassionate”. The Left I saw on Saturday is instead the natural home of the totalitarian and the bully. And that’s without considering that today’s socialists and feminists also endorse the killing of healthy unborn infants just weeks before birth. None of this is new, of course. Most of the worst modern tyrannies, from the French Revolution to the Cambodian genocide, were led by the Left. The greatest attacks on our free speech have come from Labor, a party of so-called idealists. But as British philosopher Bertrand Russell famously noted: “Much that passes as idealism is disguised hatred or disguised love of power.” We saw that in Melbourne on Saturday. They call themselves progressives. They are instead barbarians, so sure of their goodness they feel licensed to do evil.”

  19. This is what I sent to the Police Minister Bill

Anarchists Threatening Democracy and the Rule Of Law
    Minister for Policing
    Dear Kim

During the March For Babies on Saturday afternoon in Melbourne by around three to four thousand peaceful family members anarchists were allowed to freely run amuck. I was appalled at the inaction of the police when opposition groups were allowed to run through the Pro Life demonstration intimidating all and sundry. Signs were grabbed and destroyed, tug of war ensued with banners, balloons deliberately popped and people confronted assaulted and hassled and no age was a barrier. Missiles were thrown at the pro life group with no or little action taken by the police. MP’s and women were targeted and children witness appalling language and behavior. Around 15 anarchists stopped the march just before Swanston Street and police said they had just as much right to be there as we did. This is madness and illogical. They had no permit and were breaking the law. This lasted for about an hour during which time the number of anarchists grew to over 100. I witnessed a cordon of officers being instructed to leave their post leaving no protection between the two groups which resulted in more assaults and harassment. These officers just stood a few feet away and did nothing for about 15 minutes after which time the officers were allowed back into the same positions. They stood there whilst the opposition still tormented the marchers just behind them and no action was taken to remove the troublemakers. It was a disgrace. After about an hour’s hold-up and a failed strategy to move forward the march about turned and rerouted to Parliament House under constant harassment from the opposition. There the opposition group was allowed to take over the speaker’s area that Pro Life booked 12 months in advance and I’m told by an officer that we (the marchers) made the law meaning take what comes. The times police intervention did occurr the marchers were deemed to be part of the problem. I witnessed the attempted taking of equipment near the speakers and a policeman warning of the consequences of assaulting the thief when all was happening was protecting the property. The opposition screamed profanities through their megaphones and beat their drum loudly and stuck signs in front of the speakers so that others could not hear and again no police action.

This country is still a free democracy and anarchists should not be allowed to hold democracy to ransom and the police are on the front lines to prevent anarchy taking over. After Saturday’s march the anarchists have been encouraged and will be more brazen and vicious at the next event they feel should not be heard all because the police failed to do their job. The spirit of freedom to demonstrate seems to have been sabotaged and scuttled and unless the policing policy changes there will be serious injuries occurring in the future. Weakness only encourages anarchy and the innocent become the victims of soft policing.

    Keith Lewis

  20. I know that much prayer and warfare went on before this march, but may I suggest for the next year’s march that a team of intercessors be assembled out of sight to pray while the march goes on.
During CHOGM in Perth we were told that the Occupy Now group were going to cause problems and intercessors were praying for many days before and also during this time. Although there was a little bit of noise, it ended in chaotic disorganisation and nothing achieved by the rent a crowd! Prayer works!
When we are confronting such obvious evil and demonic deception it is necessary to put in a strong force of intercessors for counter measures!
It is absolutely shameful what occurred at this march, particularly by the pro abortion group, but also by the ineffective police non intervention.

    Sandy Anderson

  21. Hopefully this can spread to other cities around Australia. We need to be silent no more. We must raise our voice for the voiceless.

    Ian Nairn

  22. I also think that there needs to be different tactics, ie Flash mob style where pro lifers gather after contacting a co-ordinator and after their being genuine supporters has checked out.
Intercessors plus plus gathering at a Church – but don’t expect the Uniting Church to offer.
    Wayne Pelling

  23. Dear Bill, If it any compensation, Pope Francis recently said, even we get unfortunate treatment for standing for the rights of unborn children, we should keep up working for unborn Children,
    with regards,
    Franklin Wood

  24. I have sent an email to both Minister for Police and Herald Sun.

    Jamie Bowman

  25. I have sent an email to the Chief of the Victorian Police asking for an explanation as to why protection wasn’t extended to the holders of a legal permit, in this case, the pro-lifers. I have also asked that in future, Police tasked with supervising be briefed on the situation in advance.

    Russell Guy

  26. Bill, I’ve been wondering why this year’s march had greater opposition than the previous marches. Perhaps it’s because one of the last things Julia Gillard did as PM was to list the drug RU-486 on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). This has enabled many women, who are in a vulnerable state after becoming aware of their pregnancy, to easily take this drug, but then quickly come to regret their action. But their regret has led to hate and despair, which was on display at the rally.
I do hope Tony Abbott goes back on his word and removes it from the PBS.

    Sid Avery

  27. The Leftist rent-a crowd have resorted to hateful attacks for many years now. Communists/progressives have a long history of hate, bullying, discrimination, bigotry and even mass murder.

It’s no surprise that they should be bullying any who challenge their desire to continue the mass murder of babies.

I recall back in the 90’s how they brutally bashed a man in Brisbane because he attended a public meeting (simply out of curiosity) of a conservative group.

Even a friend had told me how he was confronted by these “communists/progressives” for preaching the gospel in the city streets. They told him that when they eventually take control of the country that they would execute any Christians preaching the gospel.

The Left’s unrivaled record of bigotry, discrimination, bullying, hate and mass murder shows that their attacks against the pro-life marchers in nothing new.

All the more reason to continue the pro-life marches and especially to preach the gospel, letting our light (Christ in us) shine in the evil darkness that the “communists/progressives” wants the humanity to decay in.

    Harold van de Wiel

  28. Bill, where do you draw the line as to when to actually physically fight back? I was there and know that if anybody had endangered my wife or baby I wouldn’t have hesitated in defending my family.

    Mario Del Giudice

  29. Hello Bill

14 years ago I walked out of the New Age into a charismatic church desperately seeking healing. My heavenly Father has done a huge amount of work in me through that time and after much prayer has brought me into the loving fellowship and excellent teaching of the Bicton Presbyterian Church in Perth.

It was Stuart Bonnington, pastor of Scots Presbyterian Church in Fremantle who told me of your website.

    Yours in Christ
    Wendy Smith
