The Rights of Children Must Come First

I have recently written about the monster march which occurred in France in support of heterosexual marriage. As many as 1.4 million Frenchmen and women came out to show their concern for marriage and family, and to stand up against the activists.

Not surprisingly, the mainstream media offered very little coverage about this massive turnout. And it was even quieter on this incredible fact: many leading homosexuals took part in the march. Indeed, one of the co-sponsors of it is an atheist and a homosexual.

This under-reported element must be highlighted. So too the reasons why so many homosexuals supported this march: many of them know what we all should know: children have a fundamental right to their own biological mother and father.

This is just so much common sense, but that is something in short supply nowadays. Almost everyone throughout human history has recognised this most basic of human rights. But in our politically correct days driven by activist minority groups, much of this common sense has been trampled underfoot.

Thus the French march is all the more remarkable, given all the support it received from homosexuals. Wendy Wright discusses this fact as follows: “Perhaps as many as a million people marched in Paris last Sunday and at French embassies around the world against proposed legislation that would legalize same-sex marriage in France.  One of the surprises in the French campaign for traditional marriage is that homosexuals have joined pro-family leaders and activists in the effort. ‘The rights of children trump the right to children,’ was the catchphrase of protesters like Jean Marc, a French mayor who is also homosexual.

“Even though France is known for its laissez faire attitude toward sex, pro-family leaders were quick to organize huge numbers. When President Hollande announced his intentions to legalize homosexual marriage last November, a demonstration against the proposal gathered 100,000 protesters. And then what started as a debate about homosexual rights changed to one about a child’s right to a mother and a father, and the numbers in opposition exploded and has come to include unlikely allies.

“Xavier Bongibault, an atheist homosexual, is a prominent spokesman against the bill. ‘In France, marriage is not designed to protect the love between two people. French marriage is specifically designed to provide children with families,’ he said in an interview. ‘[T]he most serious study done so far . . . demonstrates quite clearly that a child has trouble being raised by gay parents.’

“Jean Marc, who has lived with a man for 20 years, insists, ‘The LGBT movement that speaks out in the media . . . They don’t speak for me. As a society we should not be encouraging this. It’s not biologically natural.’

“Outraged by the bill, 66-year old Jean-Dominique Bunel, a specialist in humanitarian law who has done relief work in war-torn areas, told Le Figaro he ‘was raised by two women’ and that he ‘suffered from the lack of a father, a daily presence, a character and a properly masculine example, some counterweight to the relationship of my mother to her lover. I was aware of it at a very early age. I lived that absence of a father, experienced it, as an amputation.’

“‘As soon as I learned that the government was going to officialize marriage between two people of the same sex, I was thrown into disarray,’ he explained. It would be ‘institutionalizing a situation that had scarred me considerably. In that there is an injustice that I can in no way allow.’ If the women who raised him had been married, ‘I would have jumped into the fray and would have brought a complaint before the French state and before the European Court of Human Rights, for the violation of my right to a mom and a dad’.”

But let me offer you some words from the homosexuals themselves. I begin with more snippets from the interview with Bongibault: “What bugs me is the destructuring and dismantling of society. The first echelon of society is the familial echelon. That’s where society is built. A child needs to evolve within a familial balance. This bill would suppress that need. A child has a right to a mother and a father. The structuring of society is placed in a bad way….

“France is one of the only places in the world that links childrearing legally to marriage. In France, marriage is not designed to protect the love between two people. French marriage is specifically designed to provide children with families. So when we speak of the text of the civil code [of 1793], it says that marriage is based on children and families.”

He even said that the “idea that a homosexual must be for homosexual marriage because he’s homosexual” is “deeply homophobic”. And here is a sad story of someone who knows all about the risks to children. This is part of a speech from an adopted Asian French child:

“Hello to all. My name is Benoît Talleu, I am 17 years old. I am from Vietnam but they adopted me as a baby. My parents adopted seven children, and I am the oldest. I am in this fight against gay adoption, along with associations for adopted children, because I have seen how this discussion has unfolded. People talk about this as if the primary concern were not US – the adopted children, ourselves.

“If you ask what adoptees want, they will give you only one answer: ONE MOTHER, ONE FATHER. The words ‘mommy and daddy’ are the first words that an adoptee learns. Adoptions allow an orphan who has no parents to place a face on these words.

“The orphan – He dreams of his future parents. He imagines them. The desire comes from the depths of his being, this desire for a mother and a father. And it is the orphan that must be heeded first. We must state this with full clarity: For an orphan, there must be a father and a mother.

“The difference here is between ‘needing’ and ‘wanting.’ The orphan needs a mom and a dad. The couple ‘wants’ a child. Between ‘needing’ and ‘wanting,’ I leave it to you to choose.”

He continues: “We hear people say, ‘living with a gay couple is better than staying in an orphanage.’ Hear what I say about such an assertion: That statement reeks of dishonesty. There are tens of thousands of hetero couples waiting to adopt us. They say: ‘a gay couple is better than nothing.’ That is shocking. THAT IS HOMOPHOBIA!

“The best thing for a child is to have a mom and dad. I will not cease to repeat it. To say that an orphan, because it is in an orphanage, does not deserve to have any mother, or does not deserve to have any father, that is CRUEL! IT IS UNJUST! IT IS A DENIAL OF EQUALITY!…

“We hear, ‘oh things have evolved. So many countries are okay with gay marriage.’ But I tell you – we are a great nation. We are a great democracy. THIS BILL FOR GAY MARRIAGE IS PURE SELFISHNESS. THE LAW BELONGS TO PROTECTION OF THE WEAK, NOT TO PANDER TO THOSE WHO ARE STRONGEST. Mothers and fathers exist for children, not the other way around.

“France is the nation where the rights of man were born. So we are also the nation for the rights of the child. We are not the nation where children are a right, we are a nation where children have rights. Mr. President, I tell you now, that we are the ones who matter in all this – by this I mean all orphans, all orphanages, all adopted children. Thank you all for mobilizing.”

Wow, powerful words. I encourage you to read all of his speech. So even some of the more honest homosexuals know what should always be known: children must come first in these debates, and children have the right to be raised by their own mother and father wherever possible. Anything less is a form of child abuse.

  1. This was very interesting Bill, thank you for presenting this. I also think the same should apply for IVF, with donor eggs/sperm. I think its tragic that also heterosexual couples are getting anonymous donor eggs/sperm and bringing a child into this world, who does not get to know who their natural father and mother are. This is and will cause shocking problems in the future.

The few adoptions being done in Australia now are working fantastically, where the natural parents get to see their children every few months and the few cases of this situation I know of, are working so fantastically. Where the wonderful adopting parents take the child every few months to meet with the natural parent/s. All parties are getting along fantastically and the children are growing up so together/happy and well.

People always should have a right to their natural parents, at the very least to know who they are and about them.

I fear our future when so many children from IVF anonymous donors are growing up and may form relationships/marriage with someone who is very closely related to them without knowing through IVF.

Its fantastic that the French are protesting to put children first. As children should always come first everywhere. A country is judged by how they treat their weak and vulnerable.

  2. Wow Bill, that is so encouraging to hear. Thanks for informing us of things that the media will not. We need to hear from these people as well not just the noisy few pushing the SSM agenda.

  3. I like this quote from Xavier Bongibault. It shows as usual that the rights of children are being ignored, which seems to be the first thing we ignore.

“Marriage for all exists already in France. We speak of equality before the law. That’s equality between individuals, not equality between groups. There is equality in the sense that anyone can get in a male-female couple. There is not equality between couples, but there is equality for individuals.”

  4. These testimonies bring home the enormity of the wrong being foisted upon us all by the political class. The inherent rights of children to their own true mother and father are seeping into the public consciousness. The rights of children trump the rights to children. Amen to that!

  6. If my own personal experience of the stories of gays and lesbians is typical, I suspect that many people who have “migrated” from the straight world to the same-sex relationships world have in their backgrounds an upbringing affected by the divorce or broken relationships of their birth parents.

For some, the dynamic of their crossing over from the “straight” world would also feature the failure of their own “straight” marriages or intimate straight de facto relationships.

Marriage is surely essentially not about mere individual self-realisation or self-empowerment. Human sexual intimacy sells itself short if it shrinks away to merely a recreational activity and fails to acknowledge the joys and awesome responsibilities of the parenting and procreation of the next generation.

  8. Hi Bill, been enjoying the depth of reading on this site. The French are fighting because France links childrearing legally to marriage. How is the Australian law worded?
