<description>Bill I now know there is more to pray about and how every minute should be spent doing something for God and man as if every day is our last time on earth to be a salt and a light. May God Bless Haiti.

<description>Thank you Bill for the stirring account of our almighty God at work in Haiti. Who can imagine a President weeping publlcly for an hour for his nation&#039;s sinfulness. Our PM?
Three days of morning to evening public prayer releases the power of our God. What an exchange of the fleshly Mardi Gras for the spiritual pleading with a holy God.
Australia may well forfeit a cup holiday for intercession.
Cyclones on our eastern coast and deluged towns may be God&#039;s invitation to drop our mask and cry to God.
The most populous Muslim nation of Indonesia has 40 million believers in Christ. So near to us! Once illiterate, linked with China. Then the word of God came with intercessory Prayer

<description>Praise the Lord for the subject of this report. I have been in prayer meetings where Haiti was the main &#039;subject&#039;. One lady prayed for people to be found miraculously after the normal time they could possibly survive and this prayer (no doubt said by many Christians) has certainly been answered - I have heard of instances other than the ones yo0u mentioned.
Even more praise for the revival and the turning from voodoo. Wow! God is good.

<description>It is all very well for us view the situation in Haiti dispassionately and from the relatively detached and safe position of where we are. But surely are not the Haitians the ones to judge whether there is a link between righteous living and blessing and sinful living and cursings? Would that we learnt from them. But we will; and it is only a matter of time.

		<description>Thanks guys

I of course did not say that Robertson was either right or wrong here. We just cannot know with certainty about these sorts of issues. We certainly find lots of biblical evidence for God’s active involvement in this world – both with individuals and with nature. The Christian is not a deist. But how God and current events intersect is not always fully plain to us.

		<description>Damian,

I agree that the issues in such a tragedy are complex.

I think for a short piece on this thorny issue, I appreciate http://ronniecollierstevens.blogspot.com/ (February) the most.

I don&#039;t know if Pat R was &#039;just shooting his mouth off&#039; or if he was snared by a curly question.

No doubt a lot of people will grab a sound bite, take it out of context and use it against God&#039;s people, regardless of how carefully they try to respond to loaded questions.

<description>I thought Robertson&#039;s comments were unhelpful and likely to cause confusion on what Christians actually believe. Why didn&#039;t he also condemn Chile in the same way for they were hit with quake of much greater magnitude and experienced a fraction of the lives lost as Haiti. The same goes for quakes that occurred in the last century in California but didn&#039;t kill nearly as many people.

The simple fact is that Chile is far better developed, having put into place Milton Freedmon inspired free-market reforms since the 80&#039;s. Chile&#039;s ranking in economic freedom has climbed where Haiti ranks equal with Cuba in terms of property rights. It also takes an enormous amount of time just to start a business in Haiti.

But in a sense this could still be looked at as a condemnation from God. If Haiti had abandoned their voodoo worldview and embraced a Christian one then they may have been able to improve their economy and in turn survived the quake as well as Chile. Such goes to show the consequences of sin.

<description>How far do western nations have to sink before they too cry out to God for mercy, especially after London Pride or the Sydney Mardis Gras?
