Bill, have you come across the phrase "Water-melon Marxist" (green on the outside, red on the inside) - a good one, yes? It's not that they have ignorance of history (and thus repeat it), it's that "hope springs eternal in the human breast"; each new generation is desperate for "a better world" so they are pre-conditioned to swallow uncritically any ideology which is out there promising utopia. They think human means (political, economic, scientific, whatever) can make "a better world" - but that really requires better people, and people are by nature inclined to badness (a fact they are blinded to by secularism/materialism) - so, in this generation at least, they willingly sign up to the Church of Climatology (another good phrase I've read; not my own - but somtimes I do think up my own).

Some of the apologists for socialism blame Stalin and Mao for the atrocities. They never stop and think that socialism created the very conditions for Mao and Stalin. That is, forced redistribution of wealth in the name of equality requires huge powerful centralized government, a gross inequality of power that attracts that sort of power-hungry people.

Another one of those often mis-quoted aphorisms:
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" Santayana p. 284 of Reason in Common Sense as per Wiki entry

The violent anti-captialist demonstraters at Copenhagen are another example of the socialists under the green masks. They have moved on from protesting at G20 summits and the Iraq war to the latest ruse for the developed nation's money, climate change.

And why is there almost always violence at lefty protest rallies?
