An US take on the prayer breakfast - equally mind-boggling. This is from the other blog/site (www.redsecupp.com) I now follow daily after Bill's one:

A good start to a good prayer breakfast is to first screen the testimonies. Most testimonies I've heard are NOT suitable and offer no testimony about Jesus Christ at all. Definitely someone who is capable of public prayer is required. It sounded pathetic Bill. I was sorry to hear such an important event has fallen into decay.

Thanks Bill, I agree with your sentiments. Coming home from this recent event I vowed for the first time in 25 years not to return because of the unquestionable decline of the emphasis on “Christian”. Having missed only two of these Breakfasts since 1986 I felt I had some perspective on the mood or spirit of this event organised by the Federal Parliamentary Christian Fellowship. It seems that it can now function without the word ‘Christian’ in its title, except to the extent that present culture is bending the word ‘Christian’ to mean ‘western’.

Wow, thanks for showing me that Stewards are still active for the Lord. I wonder how you would organize a prayer breakfast. Tea and toast or rice porrige and prayer?

Bill, You have exposed the lifelessness of organised prayer destitute of God's sovereign Spirit.
Paul and Silas ventured on the Sabbath day outside the city's gate of Philippi to the bank of the river where there was an accustomed place of prayer. They addressed the people who had assembled there. Lydia was an entrepeneur in fabrics dyed in purple, and the Lord opened her heart. She was baptized with her household, inducing tham to stay with her if they were convnced of her trust in the Lord Jesus as Messiah and Saviour.
Then they met a demonised young woman, who recognised they were servants of the living God. Paul and Silas liberated her through prevailing prayer,so effective in that city. Are we too formal?
Then when Paul and Silas had been imprisoned for a public commotion, they held a prayer meeting to midnight in the city prison. Great hymns of faith echoed through those walls. God sent an earthquake, shook the foundations of the prison, so that the gaoler, his entire family turned to the living God; and were baptized. Feasting amidst the bandages from fresh wounds. Prayer awakened an entire city. Are we cautious in prayer? Acts 16.

Stephen, yes I totally agree with you. If you can remember back to who was the president of the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship during the Howard government years, that was the person to whom I was referring.

Ewan - I may have missed something but I think the current down turn started when the beguilers came to power two year ago!

Bill wrote a revealing piece about mid-07 where, when confronted by the media Kevn 07 could not quite admit he was a Christian, but when Peter Costello was asked by a child: who made particular animal? Peter replied God did. I need say no more!

A sad state of affairs Bill. I'm usually in favour of "vote with your feet". I would also recommend sending a copy of your article (above) to a few key politicians as you depart.

Well what to expect when for many years the Parliamentary Christian Fellowship was under the leadership of certain beguilers? Who's in charge now? I can't find anything online about the current leadership of the group.
