"The decline of respect for life in western culture is one more symptom of the tragic foundational shift away from a biblical worldview to one based on evolutionary humanism." by Matthew Piercy.

This excellent article by Lita Cosner is well worth a read: http://creationontheweb.com/content/view/5828/

A Civic Biology and eugenics by Grant Williams

"Eugenics refers to a movement and social policy that was very influential up to the middle decades of the 20th century. Historically, eugenics was a study of improving human genetic qualities or the ‘scientific’ breeding of human beings. George Hunter, a biology teacher from New York’s DeWitt Clinton High School, designed a new biology curriculum for secondary students, and it was published as A Civic Biology. It became the best-selling text in its field, the centre of a probably the most famous court trial ever. In its section on eugenic belief, it revealed Hunter’s belief that reality could be interpreted exclusively in terms of human values and experience. Hunter in turn derived many of his arguments from the case studies of eugenicist Henry H. Goddard. These beliefs, which were heavily laden with evolutionary scientific racism of the day, were purported to be scientific and beyond reproach. This imprint of science-knows-best continues on today’s society."

There is no question that Nazi policies stemmed from Darwinism's undermining of the judeo-Christian sanctity-of-life ethic. The Darwinian basis for Nazi eugenics and Aryan superiority theories is indisputable. Their legal system also owed much to Darwinian views of legal positivism, popular among today's judges who legislate from the bench. Even the rise of anti-semitism in 19th Century Germany was due to evolutionists like Teodor Fritsch (1852–1933). He was a notorious promoter of Aryan racial supremacy and author of The Handbook of the Jewish Question aka the Anti-Semitic Catechism, which was read by millions in Germany. By contrast, overseas Lutheran churches rebuffed attempts by Nazi agents to infiltrate.
Many thanks Andrew for that helpful information. What you talk about is also briefly mentioned in the important 1990 book by John Harris, One Blood: 200 Years of Aboriginal Encounter with Christianity.

The book you mention was written by Schenk’s daughter, Margaret Morgan in 1956.

Not many are aware that the 'stolen generations' here in Australia has a direct connection to eugenics. A.O. Neville, the 'Protector' of Aborigines in Western Australia in the 1930's was a convinced and outspoken eugenicist. He believed that the full blood aboriginal population would inevitably die out, and that his role was to make that as comfortable as possible. Half-castes should be taken from their parents and put in a situation where they would marry whites, so their descendant's aboriginality would eventually disappear. He firmly resisted the marriages of half-castes to full bloods and half-castes to half castes because that would perpetuate aboriginality. At a key conference in Canberra in 1937, AO Neville convinced the other state 'protectors' of his policies, and the stolen generations became policy Australia-wide. Tragically, the churches co-operated with and even facilitated this policy. Only a few missionaries understood and opposed it, one such was Rod and Mysie Schenk (Lutheran) in Mt. Margaret, Western Australia. His story ('Mt. Margaret: A Drop in a Bucket') is a good read on these matters.
