Bill,

For an annotated bibliography of some of the more important older works in historical apologetics, look <a href="http://www.lydiamcgrew.com/Historicalapologeticsreadinglist.htm" rel="nofollow">here</a>. One nice feature of this list is that all of the titles are available free online -- hyperlinks are provided for all of the titles.

Happy Reading!

I am an Australian who has just this month (June 08) published a general Christian apologetic. The book is called God, Actually; the publisher is ABC Books. I do my best to cover most of the key issues. I was a big firm lawyer for 20 years and an agnostic leaning towards atheism until my mid-thirties (I'm now 44). I thought that a book written for educated, secular Australians - with an interest in the big issues - might strike a chord.

Thanks Ross

I would regard Paul Barnett more as a theologian and/or New Testament scholar than an apologist (think of his excellent NIC commentary on II Corinthians, eg), although he has written some good apologetic material (<i>Is the New Testament Reliable?</i>, eg). The other three (John Dickson, Greg Clarke, Ross Clifford - all in Sydney) are certainly good examples of Aussie apologists. Keep up the good work.

Bill, I agree with Chris: there are plenty of good Aussie apologetics texts, eg Barnett, Dickson, Clarke, Clifford even. Many better than US texts. No need to write the first one, but as Chris suggests update the list.
Blessings, Ross Clifford

Thanks Chris

Yes, you are right: these are almost all American or English works. There in fact is not a lot on apologetics by Australian authors. There are a few authors, often associated with the Sydney Anglicans, who write some popular level books on various apologetics themes, if you want to pursue those.

But on a topic like apologetics, cultural/national differences should not be very pronounced I would have thought. For example, the arguments for or against God’s existence would be fairly similar, whether penned in Melbourne or Memphis. A discussion on the atheism of Dawkins would differ very little whether written in Australia or America. And a defence of the resurrection would use pretty much the same arguments and evidence, whether made in the UK or New Zealand.

I guess I need to pen a book on apologetics, and at least include some Australian illustrations!

Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for this resource list.
Can I make an observation/request? There's not much specifically Australian here. But most of the people I chat to are Aussie. I know truth is bigger than any cultural quirks, but truth is always expressed in a specific culture.
Bill, since you are one for keeping an eye on such resources, I'd value your observations of Aussie-friendly tools as well.
Thanks again,
Chris Little
