While Staub has warned rightly the danger of pop Christianity, we also need to remember what Paul mentioned in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23. We need to make ourselves a slave to everyone (v 23), to win as many as possible, at the same time remembering that when we become all things to all men (v 22), we do all this for the sake of the gospel (v23). While Bible study is important, we need to guard against the danger of becoming overfed without the practical workout of the Biblical injunction to bring the gospel to the pop culture.

Hi, Bill.

A hasty post before going to work.

It seems that Dick Staub has picked up the threads of Francis A. Schaeffer's themes. Good on him!

Without a firm foundation (Creation Ministries) of absolute Truth (The God Who is There) we have no starting point for anything.

I also look to the presuppositional views of C Van Til here. People deny God's existence in specific terms, ie., they know there is a God, and all of life is fundamentally religious.

I totally agree. It has concerned me for some time that the Church has been presenting a 'feel good' mentality, when Women's dos are advertised 'to pamper you' because 'you deserve it'; Children's groups are all about 'partying' and being entertained; songs emphasise 'my' needs and what 'I' want or can get, and even Home Groups are based on sharing your experiences and building each other up, and less and less on true bible knowledge and application; and prayer features less and less. This often leads to poor attitudes and standards in life that are not reflecting Godly living at all. We are as the writer says, no different to the rest of the world.
It makes me sad when I believe we have so much to offer our generation, which can be so self indulgent and yet never truly happy. I believe we are to show them a better way, not try and 'compete' on the world's terms.
I find it hard to 'fit in' to this kind of church any more.

Thanks Bill. I wonder how many people who have been Christians for years have never read the whole Bible? I know that I haven't. We, as a church need to humble ourselves, accept what we've done wrong and not only read God's word, but by the grace of God apply it our lives. Only God can give us a hunger for him and it is to God that we need to turn.
