<description>So now &lt;a href=&quot;http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/abc_staffer_raising_funds_for_labor/P30/&quot; rel=&quot;nofollow&quot;&gt;ABC presenter Philip Adams is raising funds for Labor&lt;/a&gt;. This together with Maxine McKew&#039;s standing for Labor in the PM&#039;s seat speaks volumes for ABC&#039;s lack of objectivity. Their own official guidlines are just decoration not real policy:

4.4 Conflict of interest
4.4.1 There should be no conflict between the private interests of ABC staff and their official duties. The outside activities of staff, including financial, personal and political relationships, must not compromise the editorial integrity of ABC programs. Staff are expected to arrange their affairs in a manner that will prevent conflict of interest.

If our PM wins the next election, one of his first acts should be to privatize the ABC. Then they would need to please the public to survive; how radical!

<description>Damien, the BBC was originally funded to be a virtuous organization. But now it constantly pushes leftist anti-Christian propaganda, just like the ABC. And that is the problem with government funding: it removes accountability from its customers.

<description>Yeah, Tony Jones didn&#039;t leave much doubt about where he stood on global warming! I really hope the ABC can continue it&#039;s move towards the centre of politics, but I doubt that a true balance will ever be found.

The reason we bother discussing this issue is because the media is such a powerful force. For that reason, I think it virtuous that a publicly funded and publicly managed media organisation should continue to exist. My nose is put out of joint however, when the content of that publicly owned media organisation does not generally reflect the values of those who own it and sustain it.

		<description>Damien:

It&#039;s a matter of principle. People should not have to pay for the dissemination of views to which they are strongly opposed.

		<description>Thanks Damien

I hope you are right about the ABC. It still seems pretty bad news to me, but perhaps there are slow changes taking place. As I mentioned in an earlier piece, I was not at all impressed with Jones and his handling of the global warming sceptic. If he applied the same standards to all controversial guests, then I might be less worried. But he seems awfully selective as to those he really goes after, and his (the ABC’s) determination to have all sides of the story heard only occurs rarely. As I said elsewhere, the ABC regularly presents controversial – and politically correct – topics without seeing the need to provide some balance, or let the other side get a hearing. So why the need in the case of Durkin?

<description>Do you think that the ABC is beyond reform, Jonathon? I suppose I would describe myself as &quot;right of centre&quot; politically, and I have been deeply annoyed that my tax dollars have funded a disgracefully biased ABC, but things have improved a fair bit in the past two or three years. The board has been almost balanced out with Albrechtsen, Windschuttle &amp; Brunton (3/8 from the right), and Tony Jones&#039; appointment to host nightline has been excellent. Jones clearly has different political views to me, but I have alot of respect for him. He has his occasional laspses, but he would have to be one of the most fair minded and self-restrained journos in the country today.

<description>That&#039;s why the governments of the UK and Au should cease trying to reform them, and simply privatise them. They should not be able to push their leftist agenda with money taken by force from taxpayers.

<description>Don&#039;t hold your breath for any changes in the BBC.
The task is beyond the capabilities and courage of the current management and the new trustee board.
People power is needed to force them to change - so it is up to us all to complain in a proper and regular manner.
