Amen brother. These are the ideals that seem to nourish the Pentecostal movement. It "puts more bums on the seats", as one pastor of such a ministry once said.

I left the AOG, and Pentecostalism in general, as I could no longer come to grips with their mindset. If Jesus were to enter some of these churches, I'm sure He would overturn the tables in a fit of rage.

There is such little accountability, and when anyone dares question, or expose these flaws, they are quite often told that they are not to be "judgmental". This is what I now refer to as the 'Pentecostal code of silence', where any critical thought or questioning is promptly crushed by some warped interpretation of Scripture. What a contrast, as Paul clearly encourages us to keep each other accountable by saying, "For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?".

It seems to me that there are many in the movement with a guilty conscience, hence their reluctance to be confronted. Prosperity theology is a lot like Multi-level marketing, it keeps people hanging on by the promise of wealth and happiness, but consistently delivers poverty and disillusionment.

Thank you Bill, for your balanced views on many issues that I'm struggling with at this point in my life. It is such a joy to come across some good old fashioned truth, once in a while. :) God bless.

Indeed, and which is the bigger need of Christians in the West - More money, or more Holiness. I think the answer is obvious.
